Job Overview:
The Area Sales Manager (ASM) – Solar Projects is responsible for driving the sales and market expansion of solar energy solutions within an assigned geographical region. This role involves managing the sales pipeline, generating leads, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships with customers, developers, and government bodies. The ASM will work closely with technical teams to provide tailored solutions and will play a key role in promoting the adoption of renewable energy in the area.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Strategy & Business Development:
Develop and implement a sales strategy to drive business growth in solar energy solutions (solar panels, inverters, EPC services, etc.).
Identify and establish relationships with key stakeholders such as project developers, EPC contractors, government agencies, and commercial/industrial clients.
Achieve sales targets through a mix of direct and channel sales.
Lead Generation & Project Pipeline:
Identify new business opportunities by researching market potential and monitoring renewable energy policies and incentives.
Build and maintain a healthy pipeline of solar project opportunities across commercial, industrial, and residential segments.
Partner with marketing to conduct outreach programs and participate in industry events to generate leads.
Proposal Development & Negotiation:
Collaborate with internal teams (engineering, procurement, and project management) to develop tailored proposals and technical solutions.
Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with customers and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Manage RFP responses and prepare competitive bids for large-scale solar projects.
Client Relationship Management:
Foster strong, long-term relationships with customers, partners, and other stakeholders.
Act as the main point of contact for clients throughout the sales cycle and the implementation phase.
Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction by addressing concerns and providing post-sales support.
Sales Team Leadership:
Build and manage a sales team if necessary to cover a broader market.
Train and mentor team members to develop their skills in solar technology and project sales.
Monitor performance and ensure that team members meet their individual sales targets.
Market Research & Competitive Analysis:
Stay updated on industry trends, competitor activities, and changes in government policies related to solar energy.
Provide insights and market feedback to the product development and marketing teams to refine offerings and strategies.
Monitor and analyze the markets regulatory environment and upcoming tenders or government initiatives.
Reporting & Sales Operations:
Maintain accurate records of sales activities, leads, opportunities, and customer interactions in CRM tools.
Provide regular sales forecasts, reports, and updates to senior management.
Ensure smooth project handovers from the sales team to the project execution team.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors degree in Engineering, Business, Renewable Energy, or a related field. MBA or advanced qualifications in energy management is a plus.
Experience:5+ years of sales experience in the renewable energy industry, preferably solar.
Proven track record of closing large-scale solar projects (commercial, industrial, or utility-scale).
Experience working with project developers, EPC contractors, and government bodies.
Skills:Strong understanding of solar technology, including PV systems, energy storage, and related solutions.
Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
Ability to understand technical solutions and translate them into business value.
Proficiency in CRM tools and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint).

Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing market conditions.
